Jack E. Thayer, 74, 414 Pine Ridge Lane, Tomahawk, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his residence under Ministry Home Hospice Care.
Jack was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Merrill, the son of Julius and Cecelia (Buschmann) Thayer. He married Julie L’Abbe May 22, 1980, in Tomahawk. In his early years, Jack worked for his dad at Thayer Sand & Gravel. He later worked for J.P. Schmit as a pulp truck driver and also worked for PCA Tomahawk Mill as a logger for 10 years. He then began Tomahawk Logging, Inc., which he owned and operated for 25 years. Jack was a member of the National Guard, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, and shooting pool in local leagues.
Jack worked for the Town of Bradley Green Box Recycling Center, was a longtime member of the Tomahawk Lions Club and was an avid Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Wisconsin Badgers fan.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Thayer, Tomahawk; four daughters, Susan (Ron) McManus, Sacramento, Calif., Kelly (Steve) Thayer-Hesketh, Venice, Fla., Kerry Thayer, Minocqua, and Jacquelyn Thayer, Venice, Fla.; one step-daughter, Gina (Brian) Gruhlke, Tomahawk; one step-son, Brian Walker, Tomahawk; one brother, Mike (Sally) Thayer, Tomahawk; one sister, Sally (Ed) Nyberg, Tomahawk; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk.
Fr. John Anderson officiated.
