CM Sgt. (Ret.) Kenneth Charles Jones, 82 of Rhinelander, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 6, 1930, in Milwaukee to Donald and Helen (Lideen) Jones.
Ken served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1971 after 21 years of service. He married the former Mary Jane Ouimette and together they raised their family of three sons.
Ken retired from his second career as a teacher at Fargo North High School in 1983. He and Jane moved to their beloved cabin at the Willow Flowage where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being in the woods. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Ken is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary “Jane” Jones of Rhinelander; one sister, Barbara (Jones) Michie of Rhinelander; two sons, Brian (Susan) Jones of Rhinelander and Mark (Eily) Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren, Sara (Noel) Umland, Megan Jones, CSM2 Zachary (Amy) Jones, Janess (Matt) Sveet, Kerry Jones, and Ryan Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Kaden and Colton Umland and Jocelyn, Levi and Cameron Sveet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Donald Jones in 1982; daughter-in-law, Denise; and siblings, Betty, Donald and Norman.
Funeral services for Ken were held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander with Rev. Rebecca Niese officiating. Interment is in Union Grove Cemetery in Harshaw.
