John Howard Joy, 82, died peacefully March 29, 2013, in his home, surrounded by family. John was married to his childhood sweetheart Patricia (Simale) Joy for 54 years, who proceeded him in death in 2006. He was a master carpenter while living in Indiana, but his dream was to move his family to Northern Wisconsin to enjoy small town community living and the outdoors, a dream that he made happen in 1976 when he purchased a small resort in Minocqua. He later went to work at Simpson Electric, which prompted the family move to Lac du Flambeau, where they spent many happy years. He spent over 20 years serving our country in the Navy, Army and Army Reserves, and later in life joined the American Legion. Not only did he have a love for his country and family, he had many interests as well. John loved to fish, go to the casino, hand feed the birds and chipmunks, play games and grill out with his family, treasure hunt at garage sales and flea markets, and remained an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He was his most happy when surrounded by his family, which included six children, Surviving area Kathleen (Charles) Diver, Pamela Stevens, David Joy, Daniel Joy, Michelle (Bill) Lewis, Jennifer (Michael) LeVickis, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grand children. He is also survived by his sister Josephine (Robert) Ando. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Lac du Flambeau. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Hospice in rememberance of John.
