On Feb. 11, 1958, Steven Valentine Albertson was born to parents Val and Marie (Becker) Albertson in Springfield, Minn. Steve was the youngest of three children and enjoyed spending time with his sisters, Judy and Tami.

Steve attended and graduated from Springfield High School in 1976.

After high school, Steve moved to Minneapolis to attend the Brown Institute where he earned a degree in broadcasting and communications. Steve pursued his passion for radio and soon became on-air talent for radio stations in Nebraska, Montana and Wisconsin. He had the perfect voice for the job. Steve had a long career in radio and marketing. Most recently he was general manager and sales manager for NRG Media in Rhinelander.

He was working at WJON Broadcasting in St. Cloud when he met his wife, Patty. As the saying goes, “opposites attract” and the two complimented each other nicely. Steve and Patty’s love grew, and they soon exchanged vows in Las Vegas on Oct. 22, 1996. After getting married, the two moved to Grand Forks, Lakeville and eventually Minocqua. Every move was motivated by Steve’s passion for work.

Another passion of Steve’s was sports. Baseball and football were his favorites, and he especially enjoyed tracking all of the statistics throughout the season. Steve also loved traveling to Las Vegas. He and Patty visited the city more times than they could count. They went to shows and enjoyed walking around taking in all the sights. Steve also enjoyed reading in his free time. Steve was a reserved man, but had a great sense of humor to those who knew him best.

Steve passed away peacefully, at age 55, Wednesday, July 3, 2013, surrounded by family at his sister’s home in Prior Lake, Minn.

Forever loved, Steve will be remembered by, wife, Patty of Minocqua; sons Brett Albertson of Rhinelander and Kyle Albertson of Eau Claire; step-daughters Sarah Jackson of Hastings, Minn., and Hannah Jackson of St. Paul, Minn.; sisters Judy (Gary) May of Prior Lake, Minn., and Tami (Dale) Adams of Bethany, Okla.; niece Michelle (Ken) Hueser of Minneapolis, Minn.; nephew Scott (Jennifer) May of Edina, Minn.; and other loving relatives and friends.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

Urn bearers for Steve will be his sisters, Judy and Tami.

The celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 15, 11 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m., all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN.

Rev. John P. Vaughn will preside.

A private burial will be held immediately following the service at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield, Minn.

Memorials are preferred and will be distributed by the family in Steve’s honor.

The Albertson family is served with honor, care and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Prior Lake Chapel.
