Michael Henry Szymanski, 49, Red Wing, Minn., died July 24, 2013, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. 

He was born Dec. 10, 1963, to Henry and Virginia (Vasques) Szymanski in Sycamore, Ill. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Illinois and went on to attend UW-Whitewater before transferring to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. 

There, he graduated with a degree in small business and went on to earn his enrolled agent designation. In 1985, he moved to Red Wing. There he met Marilyn “Mickey” Seefeldt. The two were married at the St. James Hotel March 25, 1989.  

He worked for and later purchased General Business Systems and renamed the business Red Wing Tax and Consulting. He was a great businessman with a passion for teaching others. He was very competitive and loved to find a good deal. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and was an avid season ticket holder for Gopher volleyball, basketball and football. 

Mike and Mickey spent time traveling across the country, going to music concerts and riding motorcycles. He had his pilot’s license and loved to fly. Mike was a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE # 845 and of the YMCA. He will be remembered for being a loving and laid back guy. 

He is survived by his wife, Mickey of Red Wing; one son, Matthew Michael of Red Wing; his parents, Henry and Virginia of Winchester; one sister, Peggy (Rohit) Gupta of Santa Clara, Calif.; niece and nephew, Sabina and Rapheal Gupta; father and mother in-law John and Pat Seefeldt of Minocqua; sister-in-law, Kathy Seefeldt of Menasha; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. 

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 29, 2 p.m., at Cornerstone Community Church in Red Wing with Rev. Mark Kalb officiating. 

A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 213 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church. 

Memorials are preferred to the family to be distributed between several local organizations at a later date.
