Joan G. Zubrod, 79, of Presque Isle, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff.
Joan was born June 19, 1934, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Paul and Vera (Meyer) Firnett. She married Arthur H. Zubrod Sept. 24, 1955, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Charles City, Iowa.
Joan was a Registered Nurse and worked throughout the country. She enjoyed crafts, working in her rock garden and was an active member at St. Rita’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Joan worked one day a week at Thoma’s Mini Mart in Presque Isle. She was fortunate to fulfill her life-long dream of retiring in the Northwoods with her husband and beloved dachshunds on Oxbow Lake, where she truly loved the outdoors.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Art, Feb. 3, 2003.
She is survived by her son, Michael; grandchildren, Josh and Melissa; brothers, Paul (Marilyn) Firnett, John (Pat) Firnett and David (Ruth) Firnett; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Marge Thoma and The Thoma Family and many friends across the country.
A Memorial Gathering will be held 2-3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, with a funeral Mass to follow at 3 p.m.
Father Michael Hayden will officiate.
