Gerald L. (Pete) Abraham, 80, of Minocqua, passed away Nov. 16, 2013.
Pete was born June 14, 1933, to Elsie and Lincoln Abraham in Merrill.
He grew up in Minocqua and graduated from Minocqua High School.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and later in life enjoyed golfing, watching his grandchildren play high school hockey, Min-Aqua Bat shows and spending time with family and friends.
Pete was a founding member of the Min-Aqua Bats Water Ski Team in the 1950s and also skied at Cypress Gardens in Florida.
In 1953, he performed in the outdoor musical movie “Easy to Love” with Ester Williams.
He was also an early member of the Minocqua Fire Department and helped establish the Minocqua Rescue Squad.
A loving father and grandfather, Pete is survived by his sister, Ila Schmidt of Melbourne, Fla.: five sons, Peter of Wauwatosa, Pat (Sandi) of Minocqua, Scott (Vickie) of Minocqua, Gerald “Link” of Minocqua, and Tim (Carol) of Twin Lakes; one daughter, Cindy (Todd) Wiesendanger of Arbor Vitae; eight grandchildren; and cousin Mary (Henry) Varga of Minocqua.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Avanti Health and Rehabilitation staff for their love and support in his final days.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
A gathering in the fellowship hall will follow directly afterward.
