Leonard J. “Skip” Skrobot Jr., 69, Manitowish Waters, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 in Marshfield. Skip was born April 21, 1944, in Wausau.
Skip attended Lakeland Union High School and UW-Superior. He married Debra Ann Lerch April 26, 1975. Skip worked for Allis Chalmers in West Allis until he moved to the Northwoods full-time and became a self-employed family contractor.
Skip was the fire chief for 25 years of the Manitowish Waters Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, snowmobiling, boating and reloading. He especially loved spending time with family and friends.
Skip was a big lovable teddy bear with a heart of gold and was always willing to help anyone in need, “With this hand and these fingers.”
Skip is survived by his wife, Debra; two children, Robert “Bob” Skrobot and Jennifer Thoma; grandchildren Christopher, Eric and Owen Thoma; one sister, Barbara (Mark) Simon; and by many loving nieces and nephews and the “Big Brown Dog” and sometimes Frank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Betty Skrobot; and two of his best buddies, Wayne Kwaitkowski and Ed Komos.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, Dec. 23, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Manitowish Waters, with a gathering from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Manitowish Waters Fire Company or North Lakeland Ice Inc.
