John W. Tangas, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 19, 1924, to Leonides and Wilma (Szilagyi) Tangas in Chicago, Ill. John enlisted into the United States Army at the age of 18; he was a Master Sergeant of the 82nd Airborne Infantry. He worked at GEO International in Texas and Pukall Lumber in Woodruff as a chemical engineer at both. John married Lois April 5, 1988. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
John is survived by his loving wife, Lois; his children, Michael (Vicki), Alicia Wilson, Celeste (David) Dunn and Andrea (John) Beachey; his step-children, Ray (Heidi) LaHaie, Lynette (Roger) Sanday and Roxanne (Jeff Jadike) Imrick; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Constantine; and his first wife, Joan in 1983.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 11:30 a.m., at Nativity of Our Lord Church – St. Mary’s with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating. Military Honors will follow the service.
Visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
A memorial has been established in John’s name and may be directed to the family.
