Robert G. Dickinson, Jr., 60, formerly of Wheaton, Ill., died April 30, 2014, at his home in St. Germain, after a brief illness. Plans for a memorial service are pending. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Greater Chicago Chapter and the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of Illinois.
Mr. Dickinson was born August 29, 1953, in Chicago, to Robert G. and Phyllis Dickinson. He graduated from Glenbard West High School, Glen Ellyn, Ill., in 1971 and from Northern Illinois University in 1975.
Bob taught social studies and speech at Glenbard North High School, Carol Stream, Ill., for 34 years, retiring in 2008. He married fellow teacher Nora Van Laten in 1978. They celebrated 33 anniversaries before her death in 2011.
Bob vacationed in the Northwoods throughout his childhood. He and Nora became summer residents of the St. Germain area in 1979 and moved there permanently in 2010. He loved his life up north, frequently joining friends at Patti’s Murmuring Waters for darts and good times. He also enjoyed working on model trains and his vintage mustang and loved to golf and fish as well.
He was devoted to his beloved dogs, Zeus, Apollo and Hermes. They will be well cared for in his absence.
Survivors include cousins, James (Janet) Dickinson of Madison, Virginia (Daniel) Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa, and John (Eileen Vorbach) Dickinson of Chicago. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
