Donald F. Jordan, age 97, of Springstead, died on June 21, 2014. Mr. Jordan was a long time employee of the Farm Credit Bank in St. Paul, Minn., before retiring in 1973.
He was born in Minneapolis, on March 13, 1917, to parents Phillip S. Jordan and Imadee Fraiken. He graduated from Morris, Minn., High School with the class of 1933, from the University of Minnesota School of Animal Husbandry in 1940 and then a masters degree in Animal Genetics in 1941. After marrying Ethel Jane Endicott in October of 1941, he began his career with the Federal Land Bank in Minot, N.D. The invasion at Pearl Harbor soon followed and he joined the Navy in 1943, serving in the South Pacific. After the war ended, he rejoined the Federal Land Bank and was assigned to Wausau, before being transferred to the St. Paul office in 1959 where he retired at age 56. His retirement years were spent on Boot Lake in Springstead.
Over the years, Mr. Jordan was an active hunter, fisherman, bridge player, and golfer. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi, the Masonic Lodge, Parkview United Church of Christ in White Bear Lake, and the Community Presbyterian Church of Lac du Flambeau. He loved life, his friends, his family and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers (Phil and Robert), first wife Jane of 57 years, son William and son-in-law Kenneth Godfrey. He is survived by his second wife Elaine, son Dixon and wife Janis of Arden Hills, Minn., daughter Kathie Godfrey of Marquette, Mich., son Mark and wife Margaret of Mahtomedi, Minn., daughter-in-law Gloria of Silver Bay, Minn., 9 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A celebration of Donald’s life will take place from 2 p.m., July, 8, at Community Presbyterian Church of Lac du Flambeau. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald's memory to University of Minnesota, Athletic Department or Community Presbyterian Church of Lac du Flambeau.
