Rev. Marvin F. Doelger

Rev. Marvin F. Doelger was taken to his eternal home on July 6, 2014, after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Marvin was born on November 24, 1935, in Milwaukee, to Alma (Maas) and Frederick Doelger. He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Doris (Boettcher) on June 14, 1959, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, a marriage that was blessed with five children, 18 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Marvin graduated from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, and was ordained into the Holy Ministry in 1962. For the next 33 years, Marvin served congregations in and around Colome, S.D. (1962-1969) and in Caledonia, Minn. (1969-1995). He was diagnosed with MS in 1993 and retired from the public ministry in 1995. Marvin loved the Lord and served Him faithfully to the very end of his life.

He and his wife moved to Hazelhurst, in June of 1995 where they made their home on Bear Lake. He enjoyed the northwoods of Wisconsin and living on the lake.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris, son David (Claire) of Cottage Grove, Wis., daughter Bethany Kastenschmidt (Kevin) of Onalaska, Wis., daughter Rachel Peterson (Daniel) of Burlington, Wis., daughter Sarah Cloutier (Scott) of West Chester, Ohio, and son Aaron (Robbie) of Suamico, Wis., as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a faithful husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a faithful servant of the Lord. We will miss your unconditional love, your great sense of humor, your laughter, your unquenchable thirst for knowledge and your rock solid example of faith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minocqua, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to be given to Trinity Lutheran Church (Minocqua, WI), Onalaska Luther High School (Onalaska, WI) or Time of Grace Ministries (Milwaukee, WI).

Bolger Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family, 715-356-3200 or visit www.bolgerfuneral.com.

Pastor Doelger was always a very good person to myself and my family. I have a great deal of respect for him and his work for the Lord.
