Sandra M. Wegner, of Arbor Vitae, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014, at her home. Sandra was born August 29, 1943 in Milwaukee to Sherman and Margaret (Bentzler) Terkelson. She attended grade school in Presque Isle and graduated from high school in Marenisco, Michigan. She married Allen Wegner on April 16, 1977, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder Junction.

Growing up at Big Lake Resort in the Town of Presque Isle gave Sandy the opportunity to use her culinary talents. Guests would order her “fresh from the oven” fruit pies daily. This later developed into a love of baking and decorating beautiful wedding cakes which were requested by many area brides.

She and her husband lived on the Manitowish River in a house that Al built before they married. Sandy was his “office staff” for his business, Wegner Surveying and Soil Testing, and after a day’s work they loved to go out dancing at local establishments. Sandy also loved her work as office manager at the Manitowish Waters Telephone Co. until her retirement, and then worked part time at the Oasis, Voss’ Restaurant and La Porte’s Deli.

On May 23, 1978 Sandy became a charter member of the Manitowish Waters Lioness Club. She served as president, held various other offices throughout the years and received the “Lioness of the Year” award. She volunteered constantly and loved it until her declining health a few years ago created a hardship on her, at which time she developed a talent for working with stained glass, which she happily shared.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Allen in 1998 and her parents. She is loved and missed by a sister, Patricia Terkelson of Wautoma, and a brother, Warren (Dianna) Terkelson of Lake Tomahawk and their five daughters, Sandy’s nieces: Cheryl (Perry) Goetsch of Kronenwetter, Cathy (Brad) Higar of Wausau, Carolyn (John) Adams of Wausau, Carmen (Jeff) Oelke of Cazenovia, Christine (Dan) Terkelson of Wausau and their nine children. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Wegner of Clintonville, and cousins. Upon Sandy’s wishes, cremation took place and a memorial service will be held at the Bolger Funeral Home – Woodruff Chapel at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, with the Reverend Robert Anderson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Manitowish Waters Lioness Club c/o Pat Becker, Treasurer, 324 A Point O Pines Road, Manitowish Waters, WI 54545.
