Marilyn Joan Tisol, 84, of Manitowish Waters, and formerly Hinsdale, Illinois, died May 26, 2014, in Milwaukee as a result of metastatic breast cancer. Her parents, Blair and Gladys Coursen, her brother Charles Coursen and her husband Ladi Tisol, preceded her in death.
Marilyn was an expert in needle and craftwork. She created many items for her home that will serve as reminders of her. Much of her work reflected her love of the Christmas holiday season. She was also an excellent cook who enjoyed dinner parties with her family and friends including the winter fondue and summer appetizer parties. Her most significant work, however, was as a genealogist. She compiled more than two-dozen volumes of our ancestor’s history that will serve as her legacy to future generations of the family.
Her son Bill and granddaughter Caroline survive her. A memorial will be held at her home in Manitowish Waters on August 14, 2014, at 2 p.m.
Marilyn’s affinity for Northern Wisconsin was rooted in her memories of summer camp as a girl. She strongly believed in how the camp experience positively shapes young people’s values and development. In this spirit, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Campership Program at the Clearwater Camp Foundation, P.O. Box 152, Minocqua, WI 54548. This program provides need-based scholarships to the families of girls and young women to make the camp experience possible. Please include a note that the gift is in memory of Marilyn Tisol. Donations with similar notations can also be made online via www.clearwatercamp.org.
