Virginia M. Ross, 85, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, after a brief illness.

Ginny was born in Evanston, Ill., to the late Charles and Florence (Arns) Spitzer Oct. 20, 1927. She attended Lake Forest College where she met and later married William Ross, who preceded her in death in 2006.

She was a longtime resident of Minocqua after moving from Des Plaines, Ill., in 1961.

Ginny was involved in various community organizations and volunteered in service groups such as HYMC Auxiliary and Lakeland Seasons of Life Hospice. She was also very active in her faith, volunteering many hours at Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Matthias Episcopal Church.

Dogs were an important part of her life. Through the love of her dogs Ginny became involved in several venues including Breed Shows and Obedience trials. She was also a trainer at Lakeland Dog Obedience Club. Ginny and Bill enjoyed a long life at their home on Lake Tomahawk and the many activities lake life offered.

Ginny is survived by her six children, Kathleen (Dean) Ingraham of Eugene, Ore., Patricia Ross (Robert Schauss) Boulder Junction, Peggy (Roy) Bracey of Chenoa, Ill., William (Cindy) Ross of Minocqua, Matthew Ross of Wausau,  and Timothy (Carol) Ross of Heath, Texas; daughter-in-law Mary Ross-Steer; brother Ronald (Judy) Spitzer of Novinger, Mo.; sister-in-law Jeanne Spitzer; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Ross; and one brother, Robert C. Spitzer.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, 10-11 a.m., at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, with services to follow at 11 a.m.

The Reverend Edgar Wallace will officiate.

Lunch will be served immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Bolger Funeral Home of Minocqua and Woodruff is handling the arrangements.
