Forty-nine-year old James Andrew Peontke is in custody following his arrest for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle following a crash that killed 29-year-old Kory Dahlvig - a Vilas County sheriff's deputy who was responding to a call for mutual aid in Lac du Flambeau late Sunday night.

Details of the accident were not released as of press time, but reports say Dahlvig was responding to a call about 8:30 p.m. Sunday night when he approached Peontke's vehicle that was parked along Hwy. 47 about one-half mile north of the intersection with Hwy. F in Lac du Flambeau.

Peontke, who was arrested following the accident for intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, was charged Monday morning with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle following the death of Dahlvig.

No other details of the crash were available.

The Lac du Flambeau police department, Vilas County, Minocqua and Woodruff police along with the Wisconsin State Patrol all responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol. The 29-year-old Dahlvig was a former LdF deputy.

What a trajedy, individuals like Kory put their lives in danger every moment they are in uniform. What a shame that an intoxicated driver had to take his life. My thoughts and prayers go out to Kory's family, friends, and co-workers.Please don't drink and drive. it is not worth taking another life.
