Maulson to face St. Germaine in LdF tribal election Oct. 4

Incumbent Lac du Flambeau Tribal President Tom Maulson finished second  in his bid for re-election behind Henry “Butch” St. Germaine in Tuesday’s tribal primary election.. 

Maulson and St. Germaine will both be on the ballot in the Oct. 2 tribal general election. St. Germaine received 286 votes, while Maulson received 264. The top two vote-getters earned the right to be on the October ballot. 

Marilyn Thompson Miller finished third with 78 votes and will not be on the general election ballot.

In the race for tribal vice president incumbent Dee Ann Allen finished first with 267 votes and Michael W. Allen, Sr., finished second with 180. Joshua J. Thompson was third with 169 votes. Both Allens will have their names on the October general election ballot.

In the race for seats on the tribal council there were 30 candidates. The top eight finishers in Tuesday’s primary earned the right to be on the October ballot where the top four vote-getters there will earn seats on the council.

Incumbents Terry “Fred” Allen, Jr., Jerome Brooks BigJohn, Frank C. Mitchell, Sr., and Joseph G. Wildcat Sr., won four of the eight positions and earned the right to be on the October general election ballot.

The other four candidates who will be on the October ballot are Ruben (Wayman) Santiesteban, Carl W. Edwards, Gus Theobald and Vivian “Luci” Wolfe.

Ruben Santiesteban finished first with 199 votes, Terry “Fred” Allen, Jr. was second with 149 votes, Frank C. Mitchell Sr. was third with 144 votes, Jerome “Brooks” BigJohn was fourth with 142. They were followed by Joseph G. Wildcat Sr. with 127 votes, Carl W. Edwards with 108, Gus Theobald with 98 and Vivian “Luci” Wolfe was eighth with 95 votes.

The remaining other 22 candidates for the tribal council and their vote totals were: David Mayo, 90 votes; Betty J. Jack, 77 votes; Louis H. St. Germaine (Little Guy), 71 votes; Phillip “Bub” Chapman, Sr., 68 votes; Sharon Thompson Big John, 65 votes; Bill Maki, 64 votes; Glory Allen, 63 votes; John E. Snow, Sr., 63 votes; Elliott C. Rising Sun, 55 votes; Zola E. Mayo, 55 votes; Elmer Risingsun, 52 votes; Ardella Tula Christensen, 50 votes; Randy Schuman, 49, votes; Clyde G. Mann, 44 votes; Betty Lou Wayman, 43 votes; Frank Guy Wildcat, 36 votes; Gerald W. Mann, Sr., 34 votes; John R. LaBarge, Jr., 33 votes; Charles H. Wolfe, 24 votes; Robert Christensen, 21 votes; and Sandra “Tutti” Williams with 21 votes.
