Minocqua chief warns public about homecoming 'foolishness'
Gee: Town won't tolerate vandalism, other incidents; citations will be issued

Lakeland Union High School is scheduled to host its annual homecoming football game and related events Friday, Sept. 28, but before this year’s event there has been an excessive number of incidents related to homecoming vandalism and “foolishness,” according to Minocqua Police Chief Andy Gee.

“We are not going to tolerate any such incidents and citations will be issued to those involved,” Gee told the town toard at its meeting Tuesday night.

“We’ve already had the toilet papering of trees and homes and that usually escalates to egg throwing and other incidents,” Gee said. “We want them to know we won’t put up with it.”

Gee said the “foolishness” started even earlier than usual this year and he and his department have held discussions with LUHS officials. They’ve all agreed, Gee said, to come down hard on those who commit any acts of vandalism or similar crimes.

“There was one incident where clear plastic was stretched across the driveway at the home of a motorcycle rider. Had they had run into the plastic, it could have caused serious injury,” Gee said. “Luckily the driver spotted the plastic before he went into the driveway.”

“The school has agreed with us and we will take a ‘very hard line’ when it comes to this,” Gee said. “The school said it may even order suspensions of any students who are involved and caught.”
