Tonight: Boulder board to consider building committee recommendations
Committee meets for the first time following building approval by voters

Following approval of a new community center Oct. 11 by town electors in Boulder Junction, Dennis Reuss, a town board member and non-voting member of the building committee, was pleased but indicated the work had just begun.

“We have a lot of work to do,” he said that night.

That work began with a meeting of the building committee Thursday, one week after the vote.

The committee, with town chairman Charles Spencer sitting in, decided on architect and financial group recommendations that will be presented tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 23, to the town board.

The committee will recommend that Steve Jamroz of Blue Design Group, who put the building design together to this point, be retained as the project’s architect.

The Brookfield office of Ehlers Financial Group, which has done consulting on the project free of charge, is to be recommended by the committee to handle the financial portion. If approved tonight, the group will secure the financing for the project.

Tonight’s (Tuesday, Oct. 23) agenda of the Boulder Junction town board will include a resolution authorizing the construction of the community center as well as the committee’s recommendations.

The committee also heard a presentation from Jamroz, who reviewed the schedule for the project into March, outlining what would need to be done through the bidding process and the start of construction in April or May.

The committee members also decided to stay with its current membership. Those now on the board all indicated they would be willing to stay on through the next several months, a time that will be critical while building design details are completed.

“I think we have a pretty good cross-section of the community represented here,” town clerk Lois Smith said.

“We’ve always come to the meetings here and haven’t always had the same opinion,” Reuss said. “But when we left, we all agreed on what we were doing and that’s what I like about this committee.”

Jamroz said he believed that because committee members remained unified it helped in getting the project approved.

Spencer agreed with Jamroz and at the end of the meeting said he had purposely stayed away from the committee meetings but was aware of what was happening. He also said he was proud of the work the committee had done to date.

“What you folks did, as far as clearly presenting the project and answering people’s questions one on one out there on the street, the grocery store, the gas station,” Spencer said, “you changed a lot of minds and I just want to say thank you.”

The building committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
