When Woodruff police officer Tim Cerny arrived  at the location of a 911 emergency call of a house fire east of Woodruff at around 5:30 p.m. Monday night, he said there was lots of smoke.

“The smoke was rolling heavily, “ he said. “They were lucky."

The home is owned by Jerry Bybee, who Cerny said made the 911 call.

Fire trucks and personnel from four area fire departments -Woodruff, Lake Tomahawk, Minocqua and Arbor Vitae -responded.

Mike Timmons, the chief of Woodruff’s volunteer fire department, concurred with Cerny.

“There was some really heavy smoke and it got really hot in there,” he said. “Just super overheated.”

Timmons said firefighters used about 200 or 300 gallons of water but there really wasn’t much damage from flames.

“The flames just pretty much self-extinguished,” he said.

More about this fire will be included in future updates.
