The owners of a new zip line in the town of Minocqua say they are adapting to a possible shooting range next door.
Josh Russart, co-owner of the Northwoods Zip Line Tour, said Tuesday that he and his business partner would like to move a clubhouse for the new zip line farther away from a proposed rifle/pistol range at the Minocqua Gun Club.
The club’s property is adjacent to where the zip line is located.
Town board supervisors on Tuesday night OK'd the clubhouse’s new location, which would be about 150 feet from U.S. Highway 51.
The state Department of Natural Resources must still approve variances required for the change, but Russart said he was optimistic that would happen.
Changing the location of the clubhouse will make room for a second zip line, Russart said, allowing for two people to ride the zip line side by side at the same time.
“In the end, we felt everything works out for a reason,” Russart said. “We feel this is a blessing in disguise. Ultimately, this seems like a better location.”
The zip line is set to open around Memorial Day.
