Meshigauds indicted for distribution of oxycodone on LdF Tribal lands

John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced today that a federal grand jury sitting in Madison returned a nine-count indictment on April 2, 2014, against Charlie Sunn Meshigaud, 25, and Andrew Meshigaud, 28, both of Lac du Flambeau.

The indictment was unsealed today.

Count One charges them with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute Oxycodone, from January to June 2013.

Count Two of the indictment charges Charlie Sunn Meshigaud with unlawfully distributing Oxycodone on May 21, 2013. Counts Three through Nine charge both defendants with unlawfully using wire communications, MoneyGram, in furtherance of the conspiracy.

If convicted, the maximum penalty for both Count One and Count Two is 20 years in federal prison. The maximum penalty for each of Counts Three through Nine is four years in federal prison.

Andrew Meshigaud is currently incarcerated in the Vilas County Jail and Charlie Sunn Meshigaud was located and arrested in Milwaukee today.

The defendants are husband and wife.

In three separate indictments, the federal grand jury previously indicted Lois Vetterneck, Brandon Vetterneck, and Derek Armstrong for distributing Oxycodone in Lac du Flambeau. All three have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

Brandon Vetterneck will be sentenced on May 30; Lois Vetterneck on June 10; and Derek Armstrong on July 15.

Brandon Vetterneck is the son of Lois Vetterneck.

The charges against the Meshigauds are the result of an investigation conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation; the Lac du Flambeau Police Department; and the Vilas and Oneida County sheriff's departments.

The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.

Charges are an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
