Lakeland-area schools have formally approved joint health and dental insurance plans for next school year as part of a newly formed cooperative.
The cooperative includes Lakeland Union High School, Minocqua J1 School District, Woodruff J1 School District, North Lakeland School District and the Lac du Flambeau No. 1 School District.
School officials say the cooperative will save money, because it will create a larger pool of employees from all of the districts.
For Lakeland Union High School, Administrator Todd Kleinhans said he anticipated saving a total of $79,000 with the new health and dental plans, which will account for a 5.15 percent savings on premiums next year.
The schools moved to the Wisconsin Counties Association Group Health Trust for health insurance and Delta Dental, though LUHS already had Delta Dental but offered a different plan.
School officials officially started the cooperative in March.
