A man was hospitalized Tuesday after hitting a tree at the corner of U.S. Highway 51 and Blue Lake Road.
According to Minocqua Fire Chief Andy Petrowski, the man, who was driving a Ford Ranger pick-up truck, swerved to avoid a car pulling out of Blue Lake Road.
While missing the car completely, the truck crashed into a tree on the western side of Hwy. 51.
Emergency crews were dispatched just after 8 a.m.
Petrowski said the man hit his steering wheel hard and that airbags had deployed.
He was placed on a stretcher and transferred to an awaiting ambulance, which later went to Howard Young Medical Center with lights and siren activated. After being treated at Howard Young, the man was transferred to Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield by helicopter.
He was in fair condition as of Tuesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The driver of the car did not seek medical attention.
Minocqua Police Chief Dave Jaeger said he was not sure as of Tuesday morning whether any of the drivers would be issued citations. Officers who responded to the incident are still reviewing the accident and preparing reports, he said.
