The Lakeland Airport Commission Thursday approved a bid for repairs to the airport terminal roof.
The $7,795 bid, from Lakeland Roofing in Minocqua, includes an $800 upgrade to roofing shingles meant to last 50 years.
The other bid, for a metal roof installed over the current roof from Custom Metal Roofing in Oshkosh, was for $15,582.
Over the course of the last several months, the terminal has been remodeled with private funds.
At the June meeting, airport administrator John Schmitz said the roof wasn’t part of the remodeling.
The problem, he said, is primarily in the winter.
“The roof had some leaks and should be repaired,” he said. “It’s along the eaves, where ice backs up.”
At that meeting, it was decided to get estimates for the work and present them to the annual meeting of the four towns that have a stake in the airport – Minocqua, Lac du Flambeau, Arbor Vitae and Woodruff – when they meet in September or October.
The money will come from the airport’s general maintenance fund.
