The Lake Tomahawk Town Board met last Wednesday for its regular monthly meeting. On the agenda, among other things, was an annual request from the New Tom SnowFleas snowmobile club for funding. According to town chairman George DeMett, the town would historically provide the club with a $1,000 subsidy to help with trail maintenance and grooming.
At last year's budget hearing, however, it was decided to move some funds around in order to provide the club with an additional $3,000 this year. The New Tom Sno Fleas is responsible for over 120 miles of snowmobile trails connecting the Bo-Boen, Cross Country Cruisers, Hodag Snow Trails, Forest Riders, Northwoods Passage and Northern Trails Unlimited trails.
The beavers that had been causing problems near West Bluebird Road and Killdeer Road have been trapped and removed, but the dam is still there, DeMett said. He will be doing some research, looking for someone to dismantle and remove the beaver dam.
The board also discussed road projects for 2018. Three gravel roads, Dorothy Road, Dove Road and Big Doe will be paved in 2018. DeMett said there are other roads that will be waiting in the wings should there be money left over in the budget once those three roads are complete.
