Kicking off the official fundraising campaign, organizers celebrated the upcoming Generations Center: A Community Gathering Place. Generations will replace the Lakeland Retirement Center. Ascension-Howard Young donated the two-acre parcel of land for the 15,000 square foot center, which will include an indoor gymnasium with pickleball courts, café, dining area, retail store, conference room, offices, health room, walking area and more. It will be open to those 50 and older as well as the entire community for events. "We are very excited for this new location," board president Brian Nerdahl, pictured at the podium, said. "We want to embrace our Northwoods home for our new center." Sandy Anderson, Ascension-Howard Young president, observed that they are excited to support Generations. "It will be a hub of activity for all ages," she said. The center will improve quality of life for all who reside and visit here, it was noted. "We're very grateful for the donation from Ascension for the land, it's a very good location," board member John Bie added.
