Jeremy Ritchie, Minocqua, was among three who were killed in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 51 early Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 14.

The accident, which also took the lives of Justine G. Ringberg of Bayfield, and Raquel E. Nunez, of New York, N.Y., occurred near the intersection of Hwy. 51 and Fernwood Road in the Town of Cassian.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, the preliminary investigation indicates that the southbound passenger vehicle, which was occupied by Ringberg and Nunez, went out of control and entered the northbound lane of traffic and collided with the northbound propane tanker driven by Ritchie.

As a result of the crash, all three individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.

All three involved in the accident were 22 years of age.

The Oneida County HAZMAT team was dispatched to the scene.

Hwy. 51 was shut down at its junction with County Highway K and traffic re-routed, using Lakewood Road and Rocky Run Road.

The section of highway was closed throughout Tuesday night until about 6 a.m. Wednesday morning as authorities conducted their investigation.

Oneida County deputies, along with Oneida County HAZMAT, EMS, Cassian Fire Department, Nokomis Fire Department, and Nokomis First Responders responded to the call.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and Oneida County medical examiner is continuing an investigation into the events surrounding the fatal collision.
