4/10/2017 7:30:00 AM UPDATE: Child drowns in Eagle River hotel pool
At approximately 2:02 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, the Eagle River Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 ambulance call at the Days Inn hotel in Eagle River for a possible drowning in the hotel pool.
Upon arrival, officer discovered that CPR was in progress for a 6-year-old female that was unresponsive. Witnesses stated that the 6-year-old girl had been taking part in a birthday pool party with other children and was discovered lying at the bottom of the pool by one of the adults in attendance at the party.
The 6-year-old girl was transported by ambulance to the Eagle River Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The investigation of the incident is ongoing. The name of the victim will not be released until after 4 p.m. today, Monday, April 10 to allow full notification of family members.
The Eagle River Police Department is being assisted by the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, Three Lakes Police Department, Vilas County Coroner's Office, and the Eagle River Area Fire Department.
Update: Eagle River Police Department has identified the victim as Grace K. Canada of Three Lakes. The police department extends its most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Grace and the Three Lakes community. The investigation continues with assistance from the Vilas county Coroner's Office and Three Lakes Police Department.
