Oneida tourism council grapples with challenges presented by short-term rentals

Websites such as Airbnb and others make finding and booking a vacation rental for as little as two days just a few mouseclicks away. Area tourism councils are against this growing trend because those renting out their houses are not inspected by the health department, often donít carry appropriate insurance and do not pay room taxes to local municipalities.

Area tourism councils are against this growing trend because those renting out their houses are not inspected by the health department, often donít carry appropriate insurance and do not pay room taxes to local municipalities.
It's summer in the Northwoods and there are plenty of visitors enjoying the fresh air of the north country.

Tourists flock from all over the Midwest and beyond to spend vacation time in God's Country and many Northwoods residents take advantage of the demand for lodging by renting out their homes, cabins or even extra rooms on a short-term basis. (subscriber access)

Admin committee signs resolutions in preparation for upcoming board meeting
With the Oneida County Board of Supervisors scheduled to hold its June meeting next Tuesday, the county's administration committee signed several resolutions at its meeting Monday morning to be brought to the board for approval.
