Second oxycodone distributor on LdF tribal lands sentenced in federal court

John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Lois Vetterneck, 54, Lac du Flambeau, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb to a one-year term of probation for distributing oxycodone.

Vetterneck pleaded guilty to this charge on April 2, 2014.

In April 2013, confidential informants purchased oxycodone from Lois Vetterneck and her son, Brandon, on three occasions.  As a result of this investigation, Lois Vetterneck was evicted from her home.

Judge Crabb determined probation was appropriate for Lois Vetterneck because she is seeking treatment for her addiction to oxycodone, she does not have any other felony convictions, her age, other health issues, and because she is the primary caregiver for three young children.

On May 30, 2014, Judge Crabb sentenced Brandon Vetterneck to 40 months in federal prison.

The charge against Lois Vetterneck was the result of an investigation conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation; the Lac du Flambeau Police Department; and the Vilas and Oneida County sheriffs' departments.

The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
