Highlights from Cruiserfest 2014 held in Minocqua, Wisconsin, Feb. 8, 2014.
For the fourteenth straight year, the Cross Country Cruisers Snowmobile Club sponsored its Cruiserfest this past Friday and Saturday - a two-day event that brings fast snowmobiles, vintage snowmobiles, lots of food, drink and good old-fashioned fun to the ice of Lake Minocqua.
On Friday, there were bonfires, food, beverages and music at the heated tent on the lake. At 6:15 p.m. there was a snowmobile parade from Stack’s Bay to the Aqua Bowl.
Fireworks were also held Friday night, thanks to the generosity of the Town of Minocqua and the chamber of commerce, as well as the Cruisers.
Hundreds spent time on the ice throughout Saturday as well, enjoying the festivities, temperatures that were above zero, and the camaraderie of their friends and neighbors during this mid-winter gathering.
With snowmobiles in various categories racing across the ice in an effort to beat the clock, the event also hosted the annual bikini run to help raise funds for thePink Ribbon Riders, which is a breast cancer support outfit. A portion of the proceeds also went to the club for trail maintenance costs.
There were hundreds of participants who pushed their sleds to the limit, some reaching well over 100 mph across the prepped ice track that measured 3,000 feet.
