Alleged LdF drug runner pleads ‘not guilty’

February 04, 2020 by Abigail Bostwick

The woman arrested while allegedly between getting a supply of drugs from the Twin Cities area to sell in the Northwoods has pled not guilty in Vilas County Circuit Court.

Before Judge Neal Nielsen on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Erica L. Whitebird, 33, entered her denial of conduct entailed in the charges felonies possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of narcotic drugs as well as misdemeanors possession of THC, resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia against her.

Taken into custody after an investigation led police to finding Whitebird was getting methamphetamine from the Minneapolis and St. Paul areas and selling it in Lac du Flambeau, Whitebird was arrested after a traffic stop, according to court records.

Whitebird is represented by attorney Richard Bender. Nielsen found enough probable cause to move the case towards trial after hearing testimony by an involved officer.

Further, Bender requested a reduction of Whitebird’s $10,000 cash bond, which assistant district attorney Scott Niemi objected to. Nielsen denied reduction, as he did earlier last month when requested the same.

Whitebird has a pre-trial in mid-April.
