Ashe health care scholarship applications available

August 23, 2019

Applications for the Dr. Henry Ashe Continuing Education Scholarships are now available for Lakeland area college students who are pursuing a career in a health care field at the undergraduate level.

These scholarships will be awarded based on the number of qualified applications selected, and funds available for the program. Funds are provided by the Volunteers of Howard Young Medical Center, part of Ascension as the result of fundraisers and the Volunteer Gift Shop, inside the hospital.

Last year, the Howard Young Volunteers provided $18,000 to nine college students pursuing a career in the health care field. In addition, two $1,500 scholarships were presented to two graduating seniors from Lakeland Union High School (LUHS) and two $1,000 to Nicolet College for students that plan on majoring in health care.

The Howard Young Volunteers have provided $125,000 over the last seven years to LUHS, Nicolet College and other enrolled college students.

Scholarship applicants for the Dr. Henry Ashe Scholarship must be graduates of the Lakeland community. Eligibility requires students currently be enrolled in programs leading to an associate or bachelor's degree in health care-related majors. Students must have completed one semester of college.

Students may obtain the Dr. Henry Ashe Continuing Education Scholarship application by writing to the Scholarship Committee, Howard Young Medical Center Volunteers, P.O. Box 407, Woodruff, WI, 54568-0470. An electronic form can be requested by contacting Tracy Hand, volunteer liaison via email at [email protected] All returned applications must be received by mail.

Applications are available until Nov. 1, and scholarships are awarded in late December. Questions may be directed to Hand at 715-356-8517, or via email.
