Aurora Borealis Chorus at Campanile Center on Aug. 6

August 06, 2019

Celebrating 20 years of singing, the Aurora Borealis Chorus returns under the direction of Dr. David Baar, who has been leading the chorus for the past 15 years. The Aurora Borealis Chorus will be performing at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Campanile Center in downtown Minocqua.

Beverly Baar serves as the accompanist. Each summer, singers from around the country come to Minocqua to participate in this choral tradition, some of whom plan their vacations around it. It’s one of the wonderful traditions which makes Minocqua special.

Internationally renowned tenor Rodrick Dixon and soprano Alfreda Burke will be soloists. Burke and Dixon have sung around the world for more than 20 years. The married couple, both pastor’s children raised on church gospel, have been on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall and performed uplifting Broadway songs for the PBS special “Hallelujah Broadway” in Prague in 2010. Their love of music is lifelong and familial, spanning universes of music from gospel to jazz, pop, standards and opera.

This year’s program features Vivaldi’s “Magnificat,” Daniel Pinkham’s “Wedding Cantata,” and medley’s from the ever popular “Porgy & Bess” and the Broadway hit “Ragtime.”

The cost is $22 in advance, and $15 for students. For ticket purchases and more information, visit http://www.campanilecenter.org or call 715-356-9700.
