Sayner-Star Lake has announced the completion of a bike fixtation and kiosk on the Sayner segment of the Heart of Vilas Paved Bike Trail System.
The newly installed fixtation, manufactured by Saris, is adjacent to the bike trail, on the grounds of The Corner Store, at the corner of County Highway N and Razorback Road in Sayner. The fixtation includes a tire pump and all of the necessary tools needed to make immediate bike repairs. As a result of the popular trail system’s expansion in recent years, cyclists are traveling a longer distance on the trail, increasing the need for a place to stop and make crucial bike repairs.
Generous monetary donations made by Jack and Barb Hylton (and family), Mary Debilzen of The Corner Store, as well as the funds raised from two brat fries held last summer, made the purchase and installation of the bike fixtation possible. The fixtation’s funding and construction were organized by Lauri and Mike Gerlach.
“The continued generosity of the community shows their support for biking in Sayner-Star Lake,” Lauri Gerlach said.
Over the last few years, funds were also raised by the Sayner-Star Lake Lions and Lioness in addition to other community donations, to build a kiosk display for Sayner’s portion of trail. At the kiosk cyclists will find bike trail information, and space available for community events, as well as helpful area dining, shopping, and lodging information, among many other things.
The kiosk, built by Mike Gerlach, at the south end of Froelich Drive, is ready for community organizations to post bulletins, events, and local information.
“We really couldn’t be more thrilled about these trail improvements,” Debilzen said. “They’ll definitely benefit the cyclists traveling through Sayner-Star Lake.”
The trail improvements came just in time for the busy summer in the Northwoods. The more than 50 miles of paved bike trail system brings visitors from all over the country to the area for pristine biking opportunities. Sayner-Star Lake’s portion connects to the neighboring communities of St. Germain and Boulder Junction, and provides scenic riding with just the right amount of challenge for families and avid riders alike.
