Body of missing hiker found at Rainbow Falls in Ironwood

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office released a press release Sunday reporting the search and rescue efforts for a missing 22 year old female from Watertown continued after it was reported the woman had fallen into the Black River at Rainbow Falls in Ironwood, Mich.

On Tuesday, an updated release stated the body of Stephanie Narvaez was recovered around 4:40 a.m. at the base of Rainbow Falls.

According to the release, Narvaez was hiking above the falls with Karl Nelson, 22, of Milwaukee, when Narvaez attempted to cross the Black River, slipped into the water and was carried over the falls.

Assisting the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office were the Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team, Michigan State Police Wakefield Post and Michigan State Police Dive Team, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, USFS personnel, Beacon ambulance, Ironwood Township Fire and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
