Boulder Junction Art in the Library features Christine Metropulos-Friedrich

February 07, 2020

The Boulder Junction Public Library “Art in the Library” exhibit for February will feature artist Christine Metropulos-Friedrich. Her artwork will be on display in the Reading Room, above the photocopier and above the children’s computers during regular library hours.
The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception to be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 in the library. The event is free, and refreshments will be served.
Metropulos-Friedrich grew up in the quiet community of Cedarburg, just north of Milwaukee. Her mother, a caricature artist and her father, an entrepreneur, provided the ideal creative environment to nurture her natural gift for the visual arts. Metropulos-Friedrich’s talents were formalized in 1992 with a degree in commercial art through Milwaukee Area Technical College.
As a young single mother, in an effort to offer her children the healthiest environment possible, Metropulos-Friedrich moved to a rural Wisconsin farm. The farm lifestyle was the impetus to becoming a professional sign maker, fabricating sandblasted redwood farm signs. Her target market — the exotic animal industry which included emu, ostrich, elk, and buffalo ranches. Today, Metropulos-Friedrich’s focus is strictly on painting the subject of these signs, creating beautiful fine art figurative and portrait paintings and drawings.
After her children had grown, Metropulos-Friedrich began her involvement in foreign missions. She fell in love with the “real” human condition in third world countries with their minimal material distractions and their creator-centered focus. This was the catalyst behind her “Indigenous Child” series.
Metropulos-Friedrich’s primary medium is acrylic — as well as oil, pastels, colored pencil, watercolor and mixed media and her primary subject is the breathing being otherwise known as artwork with eyes. She has a studio in Minocqua.
