Most outdoor-related meetings across the state have been cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus, COVID-19. Those looking to attend should check with organizers first as this is not a comprehensive list:
North Lakeland Discovery Center
The North Lakeland Discovery Center closed on Tuesday, March 17 with an expected reopen date of Monday, April 6. All programming hosted by the Center has also been cancelled. The 12 miles of trails at the Discovery Center, however, are still open dawn to dusk. There are no restrooms on site.
Lakes and Rivers Convention
The Lakes and Rivers Convention held in Stevens Point in the beginning of April has historically been a huge draw for lake- and river-lovers of the Northwoods. This year, however, the convention will not take place as normal. Some of the sessions have been cancelled completely. Others, though, will take place in an online environment, according to the events Facebook and the website. Those interested in attending the online events can still do so on the UW-Extension Lakes website.
Wisconsin Hunter Education Instructor Association Conference
This conference was set for April 18. The conference and re-certification training have both been cancelled.
DNR and WCC spring hearings
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Conservation Congress in-person spring hearings have been cancelled. However, stakeholders will still have the option of responding to the questions presented in an online format. This has been an option for the last several years, but this year will be the only option for respondents to have their voices heard. The online input option will become available at 7 p.m. April 13 and stay available for 72 hours. This gives respondents three days to log on and complete the survey. Citizen resolutions can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Kari Lee-Zimmerman, Conservation Congress Liaison, P.O. Bic 7921 WCC/4, Madison, WI 53707-7921. Conservation Congress Delegates up for election this year will have their terms extended for one year. If a delegate gives up their seat, it will create a vacancy, into which the chair can appoint someone to fill the remainder of that term.
Trappers’ Association Spring Banquet
This banquet has been cancelled for this weekend. Refunds will be issues according to Russ Warmka.
Collection Crawl 2020
The UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History’s Collection Crawl, scheduled for April 4, has been postponed indefinitely. This is the museum’s annual open house with artifacts from al 11 of their collection on display for the public.
Again, this is not a comprehensive list and it would be safe to assume classes, workshops and meetings throughout the state would be cancelled for the next few weeks. Check with organizers for rescheduled dates and times, or possible online alternatives.
