Illinois man dies in Conover snowmobile crash

One person is dead as the result of a snowmobile accident Tuesday afternoon in the town of Conover. 
According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the dispatch center received a wireless 911 call just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 4, reporting a snowmobile vs. tree accident on trail 10 near marker 103 in Conover. The initial report was the operator, Kevin A. Keenan, Lake Zurich, Ill., was unresponsive and CPR had been started.
Upon arrival of the ambulance and rescue personnel, it was determined the Keenan was deceased.
Dale Mayo, Vilas County’s parks and recreation director, told The Lakeland Times the death is the third of the 2019-20 snowmobile season in Vilas County, the ninth in the state overall. 
“There’s really nothing we can do that will ever totally prevent this from happening,” he said. “The total concentration of sleds up here right now is overwhelming.”
The accident remains under investigation.
