Iron County authorities investigating toddler’s death

The investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy in Mercer continues. 

According to a press release issued Friday, Jan. 10, by Iron County sheriff Paul Samardich, his department’s dispatch center received a 911 call at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, reporting the child was found unresponsive in a bathtub at residence in the town of Mercer. 

“Iron County deputies along with (personnel from) Mercer Area Ambulance and Rescue (MAAR) were immediately dispatched and were on scene within approximately five minutes of the call,” Samardich said in the release. “Resuscitative efforts were begin immediately.”

Oneida County Medic 5 personnel were also called to the scene. 

The boy was transported to Howard Young Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. 

Samardich said an autopsy was scheduled, the investigation into the boy’s death conducted by his office and the Iron County Coroner’s Office.
