The Lakeland cross country teams made its season debut when the team went to the Hodag Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The Hodag Invitational was held in Rhinelander with both teams placing in the top three as a team. The girls finished in first and the boys finished in third.
The Lakeland girls went one-two-three individually.
Ashley Peterson led the way for the girls with a first place finish and a time of 19:18.0. Her time was a minute and a half better than second place.
Coming in second was Kate Melms with a time of 20:57.6. She continued to improve on what has been a great summer.
Aubrey Anderson finished in third place with a time of 21:38.3.
Coming in seventh place was Mia Case with a time of 22:27.6. Right behind her was fellow teammate Kate Vizanko with a time of 22:33.1.
Just missing the top 10 of individual finishers was Kate Tharman. She finished with time of 22:55.2, and Grace Kern, in her debut, finished with a time of 23:18.7.
The Lakeland boys had many finishers in the top 20 as well.
Victor Masayesva led the way, finishing sixth with a time of 18:25.7. Close by, Scott Balas finished in eighth with a time of 18:32.3.
In his debut, Casey Van Hefty finished ninth with a time of 18:33.0.
Rounding out the top 20 were Jake Van Hefty and Tyler Teichmiller. Jake Van Hefty finished with a time of 19:29.3 and Teichmiller finished with a time of 19:30.1.
Up next, the Thunderbirds travel to Tendick Park in Saukville on Friday, Sept. 6 for an invitational starting at 4 p.m.
