Lakeland girls’ swim defeats Mosinee

The Lakeland girls’ swim team competed against Mosinee on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Lakeland pool. The Thunderbirds won 91-66.

The Thunderbirds started the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Brie Wescott, Lacrosse Margitan, Naomi Hamerla and Carly Main finished first with a time of 2:12.57.

The other Thunderbird relay came in second. The team of Nina Starynski, Rylee Ahlborn, Amanda Kosmen and Cameryn Teichmiller swam a time of 2:14.31.

“The relays we mixed people up,” coach Chris Garcia said. “We tried to make them a little more even with some of our typical relays.”

Wescott placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.97. She also placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.09.

In the 200-yard IM, the Thunderbirds kept it up. Hamerla swam a time of 2:37.41, good for a first place finish. 

Kosmen had a second place time in the 200-yard IM. She finished second with a time of 2:42.73.

“Naomi had a really good 200 IM, so did Amanda Kosmen, both lifetime bests,” Garcia said. 

Mariah Angove finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.95.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Ahlborn finished first with a time of 57.14, the only time under one minute. 

The Thunderbirds’ success continued in the 500-yard freestyle. Angove finished first with a time of 6:09.11.

In the 200-yard free relay, the Thunderbirds went one-two again. The team comprised of Megan Ross, Main, Margitan and Angove won with a time of 1:59.48.

Coming in second place, the team of Wescott, Alysse Teichmiller, Hanna Wegner-Clements and Hamerla swam a time of 2:00.59.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Starynski finished second with a time of 2:31.79. Starynski also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.14.

Ross finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:03.94. 

Cameryn Teichmiller chipped in another second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 6:40.90.

“I thought Cameryn Teichmiller had a good 500, that was a nice time for her,” Garcia said. 

Their next meet comes Thursday, Oct. 10 at home against Medford starting at 5:30 p.m.
