The Lakeland gymnastics team held its final home meet of the season, honoring their seniors on Thursday, Jan. 23. They hosted Rhinelander at Lakeland Union High School.
The Hodags won 107.925-89.4.
“Last night it was really great to get all the girls on the Lakeland gymnastics team to compete in one or more events,” coach Mikaila Walker said. “I am proud of the work the girls have put in up to this point and can’t wait to see what the next couple of meets have in store for us.”
On senior night, the Thunderbirds saw three girls participating in their final home meet. Julie Neuberg, Katy Mueth and Anna Smith were set to compete at Lakeland one more time.
Four girls competed on the vault. Neuberg finished with a score of 7.8, the highest for any Thunderbird on the vault.
“Julie did all around, which is not typically what she does during our meets, but as it is her senior year and was her last meet she did it and was so amazing,” Walker said.
In the all-around, Neuburg finished second with a score of 27.05.
Anna Thompson scored a 6.65.
“Anna Thompson is back in action and ready to perform her heart out with this meet being her first of the year,” Walker said. “I think she will nail down some of the tough parts and show us what an athlete she is. She has amazing team spirit and is an essential member of the team.”
Then, Smith scored a 6.55.
The other Thunderbird to compete in vault was Cameryn Teichmiller. She finished with a 6.475.
On the bars, Neuberg led the way again with a score of 6.00.
Mueth competed in her first event of the night. She scored a 4.55.
“Katy, even with her previous injury, was whipping out her routines like it was nothing,” Walker said. “That girl has power and can for sure do anything she puts her mind to.”
Thompson scored a 4.2 on the bars with Teichmiller right behind her, scoring a 4.1.
Smith scored a 3.7.
“This being (Smiths’) second meet she was able to compete in, there will be some things she needs to do to modify her scores to get superior scores, but with practice she will surely be able to do it,” Walker said.
Three Thunderbirds competed on the beam. Neuberg scored a 6.6 on the night, followed by Thompson with a 6.05.
Mueth scored a 5.4.
The last event for the Thunderbirds was the floor. Here, the top finisher for the Thunderbirds was Neuberg with a 6.65.
After taking beam off, Teichmiller came back to score a 6.6 on the floor.
“Cameryn often only does one routine, but yesterday we got her on three, which she performed with little to no effort making them look effortless,” Walker said.
Mueth scored a 6.00 and Smith a 5.7.
Up next, the Thunderbirds compete Saturday, Feb. 1 at Antigo. The invitational starts at 10 a.m.
