The Lakeland Sharing Foundation will hold an open meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the Torpy Room on the third floor of the Minocqua Town Office building to discuss the future of the program. Anyone interested in either becoming a board member or volunteer are strongly encouraged to attend.
This program provides area kids in need with their school supplies at the start of the school year and then Christmas gifts, a book, hat and mittens just before the holiday season.
“When the decision to cancel the Christmas Program was made last fall, there was a lot of discussion in the community on how unfortunate it was and many people had indicated they would be willing to help to ensure the program came back for future years,” treasurer Jocelyn Seeliger said. “Well, the time is now for those people to step forward and help the kids in our community. It takes a lot of hard work and time if there are only a few people involved and that is what we have been struggling with the last few years.”
Without board members and volunteers, the program is in jeopardy of being dissolved.
“It is very sad that it has come to this, but without more people getting involved I am not sure the program will continue,” Seeliger said.
