Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA) will take a trip down to the “Birds in Art” Exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau on Oct. 17. The 44th annual exhibition features avian wonders through all-new interpretations in original paintings, sculptures, and graphics created within the last three years. This free exhibit also includes a free avian art class.

A carpool will depart from the LOLA Center at 8 a.m. and arrive at the museum at 10 a.m. Afterward, the group will stop at Thrive Foodery for lunch. Space on the tour and class is limited to 20 people. Deadline for registration is Tuesday, Oct. 1. Visit the LOLA website calendar for more details.

Felting class

Nature inspired LOLA class, Felted Butterflies, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artist and instructor Mary Burns will lead this workshop in creating colorful 3-dimensional butterflies. Students will learn how to dry needle felt using special felting needles and wool fleece. This class will cover basic needle felting techniques as well as some advanced methods. Cost of this adult and teen class is $50 with all materials supplied or $42 with your own felting needles and foam pad supplied. No experience necessary. Deadline for registration/payment is Thursday, Sept. 26.

Burns is an award-winning fiber artist, creating weavings that reflect the hues and patterns of the natural world. Her jacquard loom allows her to craft her work in great detail, vibrancy, and character. She also weaves custom-designed rugs and wall pieces in addition to felting, natural dyeing and eco-printing. Burns’ most recent project is the Ancestral Women Exhibit, which includes woven portraits of an Elder from each of Wisconsin’s twelve Native tribes and twelve complimentary weavings.
