LOLA’s Plein Air Event and Class on Aug. 23

August 20, 2019

Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA) is holding a free Plein Air Painting event in the Land O’ Lakes Community Garden from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 23. The event is free and open to all artists to find inspiration within the gardens. There is no need to register for this event.

Artists are to bring their own easel and paints. Photographers are welcome, too.

Following Plein Air Painting, artists and the public are also invited to stay for a reception and open house in the garden from 4 to 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The Land O’ Lakes Community Garden is behind the Land O’ Lakes VFW Post in downtown Land O’ Lakes. Rain location is the LOLA art room or deck.

A two-day class on Plein Air Oil Painting will be offered from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 and 7. Class will be taught by artist Barbara Freidman. Students will be meet at the parking lot of the Headwaters of the Wisconsin River, then hike a short trail to the site on Lac Vieux Desert Lake.

Using natural surroundings as inspiration, Freidman will work in the alla- prima style of painting — wet on wet. Students will focus on composition, value, lights, shadows, and color mixing, along with learning about transparent colors vs. opaque.

This class is for adult beginners and those with some experience. Some supplies needed. Cost of class is $100.
