The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) will be partnering with the Northwoods Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in a joint September meeting to discuss the current issues of “Public School Financing” from 5:50 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Minocqua Public Library, 415 Menominee Street in Minocqua. Merrill Area Public Schools superintendent Dr. John Sample, and finance director Brian Dasher, will be presenting.
Join the LWVNOW and AAUW as Sample and Dasher provide insight as to how the $40 million budget of the Merrill Area Public Schools is managed. Included in their topics of discussion will be: How schools are financed, where the money goes and why different schools get different amounts to educate each child. They will also discuss the effects vouchers have had on public schools, answer questions and respond to concerns. This meeting is open to the public.
The LWVNOW encompasses Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties. The local league belongs to the state and national League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process.
