Marshfield Clinic Health System names chief administrative officer for new Minocqua hospital

September 10, 2019

Marshfield Clinic Health System named Robert “Mike” Dowdy chief administrative officer for the new Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua hospital, currently under construction on the Minocqua Center campus. Dowdy has more than 20 years experience in health care administration.

He earned his master of science in administration from St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vt., and his bachelor of business administration through the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.

“We are very pleased that Mike Dowdy has accepted this new role with our Health System,” said Craig Telega, vice president of operations, Marshfield Clinic Health System. “He is a strong executive leader with proven success in organizational development, change management and growth. He has experience with effectively turning short and long-term strategy into decisive, executable plans, with proven, positive results.”

Dowdy was recently chief executive officer for Central Montana Medical Center in Lewistown, Mont.

“I’ve worked in hospitals in rural communities and I understand the challenges and benefits of providing care for a rural population,” Dowdy said. “Our new hospital will bring additional resources, staff and technology to the Minocqua area without patients having to travel to more urban areas.”

The new Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua hospital is on schedule for opening in April 2020. The 72,000 square foot addition to the Minocqua Center building will be equipped with 12 private patient rooms and two flexible overflow rooms; surgery center with four operating rooms and three procedure rooms; birthing center with four private rooms for labor and delivery, and dedicated C-section room for planned or urgent deliveries; emergency services; imaging and lab space, pharmacy and more.

Dowdy is married with two daughters, two grandchildren and third on the way. He loves horses and has been an EMS volunteer.

In August, Marshfield Clinic Health System named Jacquelyn Frombach regional chief nursing officer for Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua.
