Mercer family takes Vilas County Sheriff’s Department to civil court in ‘wrongful death’ of son

A Mercer family has filed civil court action accusing wrongful death against the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department on behalf of their son, who died after being in the custody of county deputies in August 2017.

The estate of Brian Kich, as well as Thomas and Mary Kich, all of Mercer, are named as plaintiffs against defendants Vilas County Sheriff’s Department, deputy Matt McMahon, former deputy Joshua Ciatti and Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation. The suit was filed shortly...
